Cave Quest 2: Beginner’s Guide
Select the difficulty of the adventure. Before starting the game, you will be prompted to determine the difficulty of the adventure. Choose one of the three options offered:
- Easily. The hint fills up quickly. The map shows locations with possible actions.
- Fine. The hint is filled normally. Locations with possible actions are not highlighted.
- Difficult. The hint fills up slowly. There are no plot clues. Active zones do not sparkle.
Study the labels for the icons and choose the complexity that will be most comfortable for you. If at some point in the game you feel that the adventure is too difficult for you or, on the contrary, distracts with unnecessary hints, change the difficulty in the settings dialog.
Clue. If you do not know what to do next, use the hint located in the lower right corner of the screen. It is available only when the amulet is completely filled with a blue glow.
Inventory. The main place at the bottom of the adventure screen is inventory. All the useful things you found in the adventure are displayed here.
How to use the item? Select and drag an item onto a location object to use it. Keep in mind that some things can be used on top of each other. If a thing consists of several parts and must be assembled as a whole, there will be a corresponding caption under its image. When you have all the parts, the signature will be replaced with "Assembled".
Game tasks. At the bottom left you will see a large "Map" button and a small "Tasks" button, which will show you a dialog with a list of tasks that are in front of you at that moment. In addition to the current tasks on this dialog, you can see your game progress. He shows:
- The number of inhabitants saved from a foreign world;
- The number of secrets found in the adventure;
- The current quality of passing match-3 puzzles.
Map exit. During the journey, you will have to walk a lot between different locations in the game world. A map is very useful for quick movement and visual orientation. To get to the map, click on the button in the lower left corner of the screen. To go back, click on the icon with the image of the house in the same place.
Designations on the map. All places of interest to you on the map are circled:
- A single circle circles all the locations that you can visit.
- A double circle indicates that you have not visited this location yet.
- The image of the enemy in a circle means that you need to fight here by clicking on it.
- A question circle indicates a secret item or action that can earn you experience.
- The cap indicates the location where you are now.
- An arrow will tell you that you can do something useful at this location (only on the easy difficulty of the adventure).
- A circle with a silhouette indicates a dark silhouette.
Move. You can move around the world not only on the map, but also directly from location to location, for this use the transition arrows. Some transitions between locations are not indicated by arrows. For example, to enter the forge in the screenshot above, simply click on it. If the location you are moving to is no longer of interest, you will be taken to the map.
Secrets. The world of Cave Quest 2 is full of secret places that only an attentive player can find. Carefully study each location and click on all items that may seem interesting to you. Found a pile of branches - check them. There may be a cleverly hidden scroll, an inconspicuous inscription, a book, or just some kind of good deed.
What are secrets? Found secrets are often rewarded with new chips that give more experience in puzzles. In addition to chips, secrets bring a lot of experience on their own. Some secrets are not easy to find. To take them, you will need to have certain talents. The number of secrets you have found can be viewed on the "Tasks" dialog.
All locations where secrets can be found are marked on the map with a question mark on the easy difficulty level.
Cave Quest 2: Experience and Upgrades
Gaining experience. As you progress through the game, your hero gains experience that advances him in learning and improving skills. Experience is displayed on a scale that pops up on the screen every time you gain new knowledge. As soon as the scale is completely filled, you get the opportunity to choose a new talent from the three offered.
You can always view your current talents and their level by clicking on the button in the upper left corner of the screen.
Skill improvement. When the scale reaches the icon in the middle, you are given the opportunity to improve one of the skills you have.
Learn and upgrade the Wisdom talent to gain new skills faster. With this talent, your gauge will not be completely depleted, but a certain percentage of experience will be transferred to a new skill.
Talent selection. When given the opportunity to choose a new skill, pay attention to the background it is depicted against. The background shows the area of the game that the skill belongs to.
- Talents on a blue background are the spells of the classic match-3 and travel. It is useful to know at least a couple of such spells, but it is not worth rushing to explore them all.
- On a purple background, skills for making pyrotechnics. Learn at least one of them as quickly as possible and improve it to the maximum.
- Red background for combat spells. It’s always good to know more of them, as each spell is effective in its own situation.
- On a brown background , various talents are shown that have applications in different areas of the game. Study and improve such talents when you feel difficulties in these areas.
Cave Quest 2: General Puzzle Guide
Difficulty of puzzles. At the beginning of the game, you will be prompted to determine the difficulty of the puzzles. Choose one of the three options offered:
- Easily. Moves are not limited. Enemies are weak. Little experience is given.
- Fine. Moves are limited. For the remaining moves, additional experience is given.
- Difficult. There are few moves. Enemies are strong. For the remaining moves, a lot of experience is given.
The more difficult the level, the more skills you will need to complete each match-3 task, but the more experience you will receive for this, which means that you will improve your talents faster. It will also be marked by a higher level of skill, which you can see in the magazine.
How to play? In puzzles, experience is given for collecting triplets of special tiles. This experience is collected on the indicator in the upper right corner of the screen and goes to you when you successfully complete the task. Experience is also given for moves not spent on completing the task, and in combat match-3 - for damage inflicted on the enemy.
What needs to be done in the puzzle? All difficulty levels except easy limit the task to a certain number of moves or time (depending on your choice). When the limit is reached, you will either have to try to complete the level again, or look for a simpler puzzle. If the game seems too easy or difficult for you, you can always change the difficulty in the settings dialog.
To expand the limit given to you for completing the task, collect four or more chips at a time. Also collect ephedra berries. When you run out of power, these berries will help you gain extra moves, time, or health in combat.
How to know your task? The task required to complete the puzzle is shown in the lower right corner of the screen. Click on it for information on how to complete it. By clicking on the "Tutorial" button, you will be taken to a page with a more detailed description of the puzzle you are playing.
Learn and develop the Moves (or Time) talent to increase the move (or time) limit you have to solve puzzles.
Puzzle obstacles. On the way to complete the task will be a variety of obstacles. There is no need to clear the entire field from them, however, in order to gain access to the necessary chips, most of them will need to be destroyed.
- Bushes and cobwebs . They cover and tie the chips, depriving you of the opportunity to collect triplets. Destroy them by collecting triplets side by side.
- Earth. It occupies the cells of the field, not giving place to the chips. It is also destroyed by collecting triplets in the neighborhood. Rocky ground will be more difficult. It is possible to destroy it only by cutting it off from the edges of the field.
- Chains. Bind chips tightly. You can destroy the chain only if you collect a triple with the chip that it covers.
- Morok. It is not so easy to destroy it. Collect triplets side by side to drive him aside until the desired cells of the field open.
- Metal plates. They cannot be destroyed. However, any pawn can move freely under them, including your hero pawn.
- Stones. These are special tokens that do not form triples and cannot be destroyed by a spell. To get rid of them, bring them to the bottom of the field.
your skill. At all difficulty levels except easy, your match-3 skill is calculated. Skill is higher the less often you fail. Therefore, try to complete the levels the first time. Mastery records at Normal and Hard levels are recorded separately.
The display of the current skill after each match-3 game can be enabled in the settings.
Cave Quest 2: Classic match-3 walkthrough
What do we have to do? In classic match-3, your task is to break the tiles and bring out the items. In order to break the tiles, collect triples or use destructive spells. Tiles come in single, double and triple strength, as well as special key tiles that open new cells of the playing field.
How to display items? To withdraw an object, you need to destroy the chips under it until it falls to the very bottom of the playing field. Bushes, earth, cobwebs and other obstacles will undoubtedly interfere with you in this matter, but it is not necessary to destroy them to complete the task.
Prizes. Some missions contain prizes. To get them, complete the main task. Then, when the chest with the prize opens, display the received prize to the very bottom of the field.
Spiders. From time to time you will come across small, but very harmful spiders. They very quickly weave the field around them with a web that will prevent you from completing your task. Drive them away as quickly as possible by collecting triplets of chips next to them.
Mana. Collect mana bottles and use them to fill the spells located on the panel on the left. Use spells when it becomes difficult to complete a mission by other means.
Spells. You can choose and use the following spells:
- Falling star. Destroys any chip on the field. The spell hits only one cell of the field, but accurately and strongly (after improvement). Good for breaking double chains and strong tiles. Also works well against blockages.
- Hurricane. Removes some of the chips from the field. Blows off a lot of chips from the field without destroying them. Experience tokens and mana tokens are not affected by this spell. Effective when traveling and when you need to withdraw prizes from the field.
- Grad. Destroys a group of tiles. Inflicts a massive, but inaccurate blow to the specified place on the field. Use it against large groups of bushes and cobwebs.
- Lightning. Incinerates several tokens of the selected type. Destroys many nearby chips of the same type as the specified one. Choose what kind of chips to destroy will bring you the greatest benefit, and cast a spell on any of them.
- Earthquake. Brings down some of the obstacles from the field. Works on all obstacles: cobwebs, chains, earth, etc. The more of them initially on the field, the more will be destroyed.
Filling and improving spells. Any spell can be cast immediately if you have a mana flask in reserve. Click on an unfilled spell and click the Fill button. Upgrade your spells by collecting experience tokens. The stronger the spell is improved, the more effectively it affects the playing field.
Develop the talent "Witchcraft". It will help you charge spells faster, as the triples of bottles you collect will bring more mana.
Bombs and other pyrotechnics. By studying pyrotechnic talents, you will from time to time receive bombs on the field that allow you to destroy tiles and various obstacles. To activate a bomb, simply swap it with an adjacent token. The effectiveness of the explosion is highly dependent on the location of activation and the direction of the bomb.
- Bomb. Exploding, destroys everything immediately next to the explosion site. Wait for the moment when it falls closer to the interfering obstacles and move it in the right direction.
- Rockets. The rocket is launched in the direction where it was displaced. She flies straight and breaks through all the chips in her path. Improved versions launch more missiles in different directions.
- Resin. Resin is poured in the direction where the barrel was shifted. The fire spreads to adjacent tiles. Cobwebs and bushes burn best, use resin against them.
Cave Quest 2: Secrets of Fast Travel
How to travel? During the journey, your hero moves along the road. Clear it by destroying chips blocking the path.
Travel tasks. On most journeys, your main goal is to reach the end of the road indicated by the arrow. Another part of the missions requires you to go around the maze and collect all the prizes scattered on the road.
Please note: chips do not always fall down. They fall where the red compass arrow on the taskbar is pointing.
Forks. Sometimes there will be forks in your path. Choose the direction in which you decide to go by clicking on one of the arrows.
How to open doors? If you meet a door on the road, open it by breaking the nearby tiles with keys.
How to remove blockages? Various blockages (logs or stones) are sorted out if you collect triples of chips next to them several times.
How to remove the trap? The trap can be removed if you sequentially collect a combination of chips illuminated by a yellow glow.
When traveling, the Ram talent is very useful. It will allow you to accelerate on the move and break the chips that stand in your way.
Cave Quest 2: Alchemy Guide
How to brew a potion? While brewing the potion, your task is to remove all bubbles containing purple dirt from the field.
How to remove bubbles? To create a bubble, match three of the ingredient tokens: Adonis, Green Gems, or Mushrooms. By collecting several bubbles together, you get one big bubble. The number with the percentage shows the size of the bubble. As soon as the bubble reaches 100% size, it pops up and bursts, taking with it all the dirt that was in it. For each pop-up bubble (with or without dirt) you get an additional 5 moves.
Correct tactics. Try to push the mud bubbles together before they float to the surface. This will allow you to complete the task in fewer moves. Bubbles without dirt, floating to the surface, do not bring you closer to completing the task. Don’t waste your moves.
How to remove soot? Over time, the boiler will be covered with soot. Remove it using volcanic pumice. Remove exactly the soot that will prevent you from reducing the bubbles with dirt among themselves. Each bubble removed adds one pumice stone.
In order for the ingredients to be collected in larger bubbles, learn and develop the Alchemy talent.
Cave Quest 2: Combat Features
Combat mechanics. During combat, you and your opponent take turns making moves. The task is to bring the enemy’s health to zero before yours runs out. On the left side of the scale is your health. On the right is the opponent’s health. Collect triplets of red attack tokens. Each such crystal takes one life from the enemy. Try to prevent the enemy from doing the same on his turn.
It is very important in battle to collect four or more chips in a row. This will allow you to make several moves in a row and inflict more damage on the enemy.
Combat spells. During the battle, you can use combat spells. Collect triples of mana tokens to fill them up.
Strong blows. There is a special marker that shows the number of strong blows that opponents have. Strong blows take 1-2 more life from the enemy than normal ones. To apply them, collect 3 or more red crystals in a row. Threes of attacks that fell out without the participation of the player do not inflict strong blows. To earn a strong hit, collect 5 or more of any chips at a time. An opponent who has received a strong blow loses one such blow himself, if he had one.
Develop the "Strength" talent to make a strong blow even more powerful and increase their supply at the beginning of the battle.
How to improve your performance? You can increase your health for combat. To do this, study and develop the talent "Fortitude". Like everywhere else, the Affliction talent will help you charge your spells faster by collecting mana bottles.
Your battle spells
These include:
- Ankemon strike. Attacks an enemy with three red crystals. The spell is given when you repair the ritual dagger. Use it when you can’t get 3 red crystals or mana. It can also be very useful if you want to interrupt an enemy’s regeneration.
- Treatment. Restores health and removes harmful spells. Use it when you’re low on life and there’s no other good move on the board. Also, the spell is needed to cure the poisoning caused by certain enemies.
- Throw. Additional attack tokens appear on the field. Use it when there are a lot of red crystals on the field, but you can’t get three of them. The spell does not pass the turn to the opponent, and you will be able to attack immediately after the spell.
- Magic shield. Protects from enemy attacks. The shield is impenetrable for any attacks of enemies, except for the blow of the guard’s scepter. Cast it when the enemy’s dangerous offensive spells are full and he is ready to cast them on his turn.
- Fire ball. Mana tokens flash and attack the enemy. Mana tokens on the field are collected into one powerful ball lightning, inflicting as much damage to the enemy as there are mana tokens. Effective when there are six or more bottles on the field.
- Diamond scepter. Attacks an enemy with five red crystals. The scepter not only explodes more attack crystals, but is also the only weapon that can break through the guardian’s shield. Use it until the shield is destroyed.
If all your spells are filled, the collected mana goes to the reserve. Any spell you use will be immediately filled from this pool.
Enemy combat spells
Not only you, but also your enemies collect mana bottles and cast spells. Keep a close eye on them and properly react to their magic.
- Rage. Additional attack tokens appear on the field. If the enemy is ready to cast such a spell, then try to either reduce the number of attack chips on the field (for example, using a dagger strike), or close yourself with a shield.
- I. The victim loses a life each turn until the spell ends or he is healed. Poisoning is well removed by a healing spell. The sooner you apply it, the more health you save.
- Regeneration. Restores life each turn until it is interrupted by an enemy attack. If the enemy regenerates, hit him in any convenient way as quickly as possible. The blow of the ankemon is especially useful here.
- spikes. Fires several sharp spikes at the player. The only defense against porcupine thorns is to close in advance with a shield.
- Rat amulet. Deals 5 damage to the enemy. If you do not have a shield, try to destroy the rat amulet as quickly as possible by breaking tiles with such a symbol.
- Web. The spider creates several pieces of web, making it impossible to make moves. The spider webs attack tokens, preventing you from making an attack. Prevent this by stacking 3s near the web, or use Ankemon Strike to smash the attack crystals along with the web.
- Lava, Rockfall, Eggs. The enemy creates several objects on the field that must be dropped from the field before the timer on them reaches zero. To do this, collect triplets next to them. If you do not have time to do this, you can use the shield.
- Ram horns. The ram hits the player with its horns, dealing damage and knocking out some of the magical energy. The blow of the mountain sheep knocks out the magical energy from your spells. Use them quickly before this happens.
- Lightning. Hits the player for 6 life. The only salvation from the guardian’s lightning is to try to close yourself with a magic shield.
- Flame. Fire breath burns a lot of chips on the field. The lizard burns chips on the field when he does not have a good move. If the enemy has such a spell ready, try to collect as many useful chips from the field as possible - with a scepter or a fireball.
- Fire collar. Allows the snake to steal your magical energy. The serpent steals your magical energy and charges its spells. If you want to fully use your magic, you will have to knock down this collar by destroying the corresponding tiles on the field.
Status Icons
Status icons are displayed right below the health bar: yours on the left, the enemy’s on the right. They report the features that you and the enemy currently have. States (left to right):
- You are poisoned and lose health every turn. Use a healing spell if you can.
- You or the enemy are covered by a shield and block all or part of the blows.
- The enemy regenerates health every turn. Attack him to interrupt the regeneration.
- The enemy dodges some of the hits.
- The enemy makes the most accurate and effective moves.
The number on the status icon indicates how many more turns this feature will last.
